T3 Update On-Line--June 2004

Printer Friendly

In this second on-line issue of T3 Update we provide Beckman Coulter users of Automated Solutions with Tips, Tricks and Techniques for Academic and Drug Discovery Research.

From the Editor: Why Automate?

I confess that I take it for granted that all scientists in academia, small biotech and large biopharma doing biological research have a clear understanding of what automation has to offer them in their daily routine. That said, I am sometimes caught by surprise when I’m asked this question. My first response is that automation allows you to do more, but throughput is not the only reason to automate! more

Project Management – North America Operations (NAO)

A customer who maintains an archival stock of various organism and DNA clones in bacterial culture has the challenge of making these samples available to researchers worldwide. To support this business, the Project Management Team in NAO provided a solution that enabled this customer the ability to execute unattended hit picking jobs consisting of hundreds of source plates and large-scale plate replication tasks, including barcode labeling.  more

Customer Training and Support

Beckman Coulter Automation Training

Beckman Coulter offers several courses in North America to help you learn to use your Biomek liquid handlers and Integrated Systems. Biomek classroom courses are offered in three Beckman Coulter training facilities: Fullerton, Calif., Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Somerset, N.J. If you cannot attend a two-day course but need to learn how to use variables, work lists, or the Span-8’s Transfer from File function, eLab Live On-line can provide the classroom quality with the convenience of the Internet.  more

Frequently Asked Questions

SAMI® Log File Sorting: SAMI Tips and Tricks
Question: By default, all data generated on one reader during one SAMI run will be logged in one ASCII text file. If this SAMI run includes different assays using the same reader, sorting the log file can be tedious. Is it possible to create one log file per assay type for plates using the same reader device in a single SAMI method?
