Solution for Septum Piercing with
Movable Labware |
|
Jana Oak, Beckman Coulter, Inc.
The capability to pierce tubes is not new, but a frequent request has been to
allow movable labware to be pierced. The obstacle with this request is the tubes
being lifted from their holder when the probes exit the tube. To counter this
problem, the Integrated Solutions team developed a movable screen which fits
over the labware to keep the tubes in their holder. This movable grippable
screen is held in place by magnets when it is placed over the tubes. The gripper
removes the screen to an empty Automated Labware Positioner (ALP) position to allow the tube holder to be moved
from/to a storage device.

An example of the septum piercing solution, in this case with a
96-tube Matrix TrakMate Tubes (left to right): Place the tube rack into the
position ALP. Place the grippable screen above the tube rack. Pipette with
tubes kept in place under the screen. |
This septum piercing solution is available through Integrated Solutions.
