Labware Stacking ALP

Sequential Storage On-Deck

Labware Stacking ALP
mounted on a Biomek NX Span-8
with Gripper instrument

The Labware Stacking ALP (automated labware positioner) is an accessory for BiomekŪ NX Span-8 with Gripper instruments. The Labware Stacking ALP provides "on-deck" sequential storage of Biomek Tips, microplates, filtration blocks, and other labware. Being "on-deck" allows access by the Biomek NX Span-8 Gripper without occupying any standard ALP positions due to its mounting location on the front left side of the instrument.

The ALP consists of two labware stacks or silos. Both stacks can be used for storage of labware to feed the requirements of a Biomek Software method, or one stack can be used as a labware input source, while the second stack is used as the output destination. The capacity per stack for common labware types is:

  • 17 standard depth microplates (14 mm)
  • 7 deepwell plates (1 mL)
  • 6 deepwell plates (2 mL)
  • 8 standard filtration blocks
  • 5 Biomek P20, P50, or P250 Tip racks (represented in the photo above as blue labware)
  • 3 Biomek Span-8 P1000 Tip racks (represented in the photo above as yellow labware)

The Labware Stacking ALP is an excellent, low-throughput alternative to "off-deck" storage devices, such as a Cytomat hotel or Stacker Carousel, and where "on-deck" standard ALP positions need to be conserved for other assay requirements.
