Biomek® FX software version: 2.0 or higher.

Import file: E-Gel96.imp

Demo method: Coming soon

Demo method import file:
This import file contains the deck layout for this method.  To install the E-Gel 96 definitions you need to download the E-Gel96.imp file above.

When using the E-Gel 96 definitions on the Biomek FX, simply drag and drop the desired base onto the worksurface of the Biomek FX in the Instrument Setup Step.  Select which pipetting head you are using and drag the appropriate E-Gel 96 definition to sit atop the appropriate base.

Note: The E-Gels themselves can be moved with the gripper system.  The gels cannot be moved when placed on any of the Mother/Daughter Bases because of the retaining clips that hold the gel in place.  Additionally, when placing the E-Gel 96 and Bases onto a Biomek Automated Labware Positioner(ALP), users should position the units in the upper right corner of the ALP.  This will allow the Biomek to reliably access the E-Gel system.

The import file contains four different labware definitions as seen in the figure below.

  • The E_Gel96 is for use with the multichannel head.
  • The E_Gel96_Span8 is for use with the Span 8 head.  It was found to be more robust when using four probes at a time to perform the pipetting rather than all eight.  However users can use the E_Gel96 definition with the Span 8 system.  Simply be aware that some fine tuning may be required when using this definition with the Span 8 pipetting system.
  • The E_Gel96HolderBase is the standard E-Gel 96 base with no electrical connections.
  • The E_Gel96Mother_DaughterBase is the definition for using the E-Gel 96 bases with electrical connections.

To install the E-Gel 96 and Base definitions follow the steps below for importing labware:

  • In the Biomek software under the Tools menu choose Import/Export Utility.
  • Select Open.
  • Select the directory where the import file (.imp) is located and choose Open.
  • Open the Labware folder by clicking the + next to it on the Import File side.
  • Drag and drop the desired setting(s) to the Current Workspace side of the Import/Export Utility. (Note: Dragging an entire folder will copy all of the settings in that folder. You will then have the opportunity of overwriting or not overwriting each individual setting.)
  • Continue to import settings using the above steps until all desired settings are imported
