Enhancing Sub-Microliter Dry-Well Pipetting with the BiomekŪ FX Liquid Handling System

Lisa M. Knapp, Edwin Dario, and Curtis Farley
Beckman Coulter, Inc.

Many common high-throughput screening applications require microliter and sub-microliter samples stored in DMSO to be dispensed to a dry microplate. Previously, this process was performed manually or at an individual workstation and not integrated as a part of an automated assay. This process can now be performed as a part of an automated assay utilizing a single Biomek FX method. Custom pipetting techniques and templates can be developed to improve the precision of this common high-throughput screening application. This poster provides details that characterize microliter and sub-microliter DMSO dry-well pipetting performance of the Biomek FX 96-Channel and 384-Channel Heads. The ability to dry-well pipette microliter and sub-microliter volumes accurately enables assay volumes to be reduced and, as a consequence, saves samples and reduces reagent costs.

Features

  • Improving precision of sub-microliter dry-well pipetting using the Technique Browser, Technique Editor, Liquid Type Editor, and Pipetting Template Editor in the Biomek FX software.
  • Automating sub-microliter dry-well pipetting in a method to lower the volume of reagents and samples required in an assay and reduce the amount of time spent in manual pipetting.
