Beckman Coulter Signs Agreements With MedAssets; Renews Chemistry, Automation and Immunoassay

Beckman Coulter has renewed agreements valued at approximately $94 million per year with MedAssets Supply Chain Systems. MedAssets is one of the nation's largest healthcare group purchasing organizations, serving more than 125 health systems, including 2,500 hospitals.

Under the terms of the new three-year agreements, MedAssets members will continue to purchase automation, general chemistry, immunoassay and integrated workcell systems from Beckman Coulter. The renewals complement existing agreements for hematology, flow cytometry and coagulation systems, already on contract with MedAssets.

In making the decision, Mary Ellen Kimmeth, MedAssets vice president of Laboratory Division and Capital Equipment Services, said, "MedAssets provides our members with cost-effective solutions that are critical to their success. Beckman Coulter shares that commitment, offering excellent customer service and a comprehensive range of innovative solutions that enhance our members' ability to deliver quality patient care."

Leland Mc Arthy, corporate vice president of North America Commercial Operations for Beckman Coulter, said about the contract renewal, "Our systems simplify and automate laboratory processes, helping to improve the productivity of MedAssets members. And, the wide breadth of our products and services meets their diverse testing requirements that help improve patient health and reduce the cost of care."

Systems include Beckman Coulter's market-leading Power Processor Automation Systems and UniCel® DxC 800 and DxC 600 Synchron® Clinical Systems, as well as high-throughput UniCel DxI 800 Access® Immunoassay Systems and integrated UniCel DxC 600i Clinical Systems, which offer one of the broadest menus available today on a single instrument.
