Stroke Diagnostics: Needs, Expectations and Possibilities
AACC Webinar
May 6, 2008

Every year, 700,000 Americans suffer strokes, but their outcomes can be improved significantly if they are diagnosed and treated within 2-3 hours of the onset of symptoms. Many believe that stroke biomarkers hold the key to diagnosing the condition as early as possible, paving the way for stroke care pathways that could help stroke victims lead happier, healthier and more productive lives.

What should you know now about what’s happening in stroke diagnostics research? During this interactive webinar, a stroke diagnostics researcher—Robert Christenson, Ph.D.—will discuss:

  • Recent AHA and American Stroke Association guidelines for ischemic stroke diagnosis and management
  • The attributes of the “ideal” stroke biomarker or biomarker panel
  • Diagnostic strategies that may help determine long-term cerebrovascular risk and assessment of suspected stroke patients
  • The roles markers such as Lp-PLA2, NMDA-receptor autoantibodies and NR2A could play in stroke diagnosis and risk assessment
  • Early results of proteomic research into a panel of possible biomarkers for stroke

Ask questions, learn what your peers think and hear what a renowned expert in the field of stroke diagnostics has to say about the needs of clinicians, the expectations of the clinical laboratory and the possibilities for laboratory testing in assessing patients with stroke symptoms.
