New Webinar: LDL Cholesterol–Clinical Significance
and Laboratory Measurement
There’s a lot of talk in the media about the correlation between
low-density lipoproteins and coronary heart disease. But is
your lab staff up to speed on the true clinical significance
of LDL Cholesterol testing and the variety of measuring methods
available today?
If not, Beckman Coulter’s new webinar may be for you.
|
| The free online course, titled “LDL Cholesterol–Clinical
Significance and Laboratory Measurement,” aims to help participants
understand how patients benefit from direct versus calculated
measurement of LDL cholesterol. The presentation outlines the
reasons why labs should not be calculating LDL cholesterol results.
By the end of this 30-minute presentation, participants will
be able to:
- Understand the classifications of lipoproteins
- Explain the strategy for primary prevention of coronary heart
disease in persons with high levels of low density lipoproteins
as defined by the National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP)
- Describe the importance of a clear purpose for collecting
data
The webinar is presented by Irena Markowski, a California-licensed
phlebotomist and member of the American Association for Clinical
Chemistry, who currently serves as Senior Applications Scientist
for Beckman Coulter.
In addition, Markowski itemizes current methods for measuring
LDL levels and how the results are used for the assessment of
coronary heart disease and treatment decisions.
Continuing education credits are offered at US $20 per unit.
Individual course viewing is free.
This new course is part of the company’s new “Coronary Heart
Disease Series,” and complements Beckman Coulter’s other series
of webinars, which includes informative courses on Cardiac Markers,
Comprehensive Lab Processes, Drugs, Fundamentals of Hemostasis,
Hematology, Tumor Markers, Women’s Healthcare Management, Diabetes
Management and Transplants.
Like all company webinars, the new “LDL Cholesterol–Clinical
Significance and Laboratory Measurement” course is accredited
by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS)
Professional Acknowledgement for Continuing Education (P.A.C.E.)
program, which enables participants to receive continuing education
credits for viewing the course.
