Introducing the COULTER® LH 780 Hematology Systems
Higher Performance With You in Mind

No one understands high-volume hematology analyzers better than hematology labs. So when we asked what you wanted most in your laboratories, we listened carefully. The result is our ground-breaking COULTER® LH 780 hematology systems, which use advanced technologies and deliver some of the highest sensitivity, specificity and efficiency in WBC differential analysis.

Just cleared by the FDA, the LH 780 delivers a broad spectrum of benefits and capabilities in response to your requests. Here's an overview of the exciting features you can expect to see.

Advanced Barcode Reading

The LH 780 analyzers' innovative, optical-based laser scanning system easily reads most barcode labels—even those with lower print quality. As a result, you get a smooth, uninterrupted workflow and enhanced patient safety. What's more, the scanning system has no moving mechanical parts, to ensure the utmost in reliability.

New Parameters That Expand Your Insights
The LH 780 analyzers extend your lab's capabilities with a broad spectrum of parameters, such as:

  • RDW-SD – Standard deviation of the width of the red cell population (RDW-SD) is an indication of size dispersion within the red cell population. Studies have shown that an elevated RDW-SD may indicate iron deficiency, whereas a normal or decreased RDW-SD may indicate heterozygous thalassemia.

Extended Quality Control Packages
The XM quality control package provides an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) of CBC, 5-Part Diff and NRBC, as well as reticulocyte parameters. Batch sizes are user-configurable for two to 1,000 runs, for up to 20 batches.

An additional quality control package—Extended QC Rules—incorporates medically-based performance standards and provides user-enabled rules for verification of random error or imprecision; systematic error or bias; and total error or inaccuracy.

Environmentally Friendly Consumables
The LH 780 analyzers offer two major advancements in this area:

  • COULTER LH Series Cleaner offers a new, improved, formadehyde-free formulation.
  • COULTER LIN-C Linearity Control significantly extends the reportable range for four pivotal LH 780 parameters: WBC, RBC, HGB and PLT.

Intuitive User Interface
To facilitate information access and control, the LH 780 features redesigned and expanded key interface screens, including the Patient Results Overview, Decision Rules and the RBC histogram.

COULTER LH SlideMaker and LH SlideStainer
The LH 780 configured with the LH SlideMaker and LH SlideStainer streamlines one of your lab's most time-consuming manual tasks with automated slide preparation. By eliminating complex tracks for specimen delivery, the LH SlideMaker and LH SlideStainer help decrease errors and increase accuracy with simple, no-prep loading. Operators simply insert sample cassettes into the workcell and return later to remove stained blood films with clear slide labeling, stain-resistant labels and optional barcoding.

“Not only do the LH 780 systems help us expand our LH 700 Series product offering, the new system features and benefits can go a long way toward helping labs improve their productivity and efficiency,” says Ralph Taylor, Vice President of Beckman Coulter's Clinical Business Management. “It helps laboratories adapt to continuing market factors, such as fewer labor resources, existing lab staff working on multiple systems and the general desire to have less manual intervention and more automation. We're offering more efficiency through enhanced technology improvements.”
