The Thermal Exchange Unit (TEU) accessory heats or cools a reservoir, plate or other standard labware on the Biomek 3000 worksurface. The unit snaps into any Biomek 3000 worksurface location and a regular Biomek labware holder (not included) fits into the top, ready to accept labware. Temperature is controlled via a user-supplied circulator bath.

The Circulating Reservoir for the Biomek 3000 provides a continuous supply of buffers, solvents or reagents on the Biomek worksurface. A four-well Teflon* reservoir is placed in one position on the Biomek worksurface. A peristaltic pump circulates liquid between two wells of the reservoir and glass supply bottles. A second pump may be added to circulate a total of four liquids. Liquid temperature can be regulated by placing the supply bottles in a user-supplied circulator bath.

The Modular Reservoir System holds liquids for pipetting with the Biomek 3000 and Beckman Coulter manual pipettors. Full reservoirs hold up to 150 mL of liquid, and do not require a frame. Half and quarter reservoirs are available, which must be used with a frame. Each frame can accommodate up to four quarter reservoirs or two half reservoirs, or variations thereof. All reservoirs are sterile and made of polypropylene. Nonpyrogenic reservoirs are available.

For use with the Biomek 2000/3000 for application requiring orbital shaking, the Micromix 5 integrates on either the right or left side for convienent access by the gripper & pipetting tools. The Gripper Tool provides the researcher with the capability to automatically move plates, reservoirs, and filtration manifold collars on the Biomek 3000 worksurface. The tool is especially useful for loading plate readers and filtration manifolds for applications such as ELISA's, DNA purification, and receptor binding assays.

Note: The Gripper Tool requires the Biomek Software 3.0 or later to operate.

High-capacity Test Tube Racks hold glass, polystyrene, polypropylene, and polyallomer tubes up to 100 mm in length. Requires Test Tube Rack Holder (P/N 609052).

For added protection against spills, spill trays can be placed under the Biomek 3000 worksurface and side module covers.

The Biomek 3000 worksurface can expand from 8 10 12 selectable positions with the use of side modules. Installed in the right or left expansion areas of the Biomek 3000, each side module adds two selectable positions to the worksurface. Both side modules are required for the maximum worksurface capacity of 12 positions. Each side module holds two labware or pipette tip rack holders, two tool racks or one test tube holder. The side module cover is removable for easy cleaning, and a side module spill tray (P/N 609078) can be installed for added protection against liquid spills.

A Latch Controller and Automatic-Latch Tip Rack Holder are utilized to facilitate automated movement of tip racks onto and off of the Biomek 3000 work surface.

• Holders are automatically opened and closed by the software when a Gripper tool or side Loader hand places a tip rack in or removes a tip rack from an automatic-latch holder.

Biomek Tool Rack and Labware Holders allow placement of interchangeable tools, pipette tip racks, multiwell plates, reservoir holders, 24-place tube racks and test tube racks on the Biomek 3000 worksurface. The tool rack, labware and pipette tip rack holders use single worksurface positions, and the test tube rack holders require two worksurface positions.

Wash tools are available in single- and eight-channel versions that deliver liquid from 50 µL to 150 mL. Ideal for plate washing, cell feeding or large-volume liquid delivery, wash tools have an extended reach (40 mm) for large-volume multiwell plates, such as the Beckman Coulter Deep-Well and Square-Well titer plates. Biomek Wash Units provide accurate liquid delivery and aspiration for all washing and large-volume liquid delivery requirements and are automatically controlled by the BioWorks Operating System.

The wash units include a precise peristaltic pump, silicon tubing, vacuum control pinch valve, with or without a six-port valve and RS-485 communication port. A customer-supplied vacuum source with flow of 0.5 L/minute at 8 psi or better is required.

The P20, P200L and P1000L pipette tools accurately transfer volumes of 1-20, 5-200 and 50- 1000 µL, respectively. The P200L and P100L include patented liquid-level sensing technology that sonically detects the meniscus for control of reagent usage and liquid transfer uniformity. All Biomek pipetting tools have liquid-level tracking capability that automatically calculates the sample height for subsequent liquid transfers. In addition, all Biomek pipette tools allow repeat pipetting of identical volumes for multiple liquid deliveries from a single sample aspiration. Single-tip tools can sample from the bottom of tubes up to 100 mm in length, provide extremely accurate pipette transfers from 1.0 µL to 1.0 mL and are compatible with a variety of Beckman Coulter Pipette Tips.

The MP20 and MP200 eight-tip pipette tools accurately transfer volumes of 1-20 µL per tip and 5-200 µL per tip, respectively, for high efficiency. Multi-tip tools incorporate liquid-level tracking and repeat-pipetting capabilities. When used with any of the P250 pipette tips, the multi-tip tools reach to the bottom of Beckman Coulter Square-Well and Deep-Well titer plates or other multiwell labware up to 50 mm in length.
