Beckman Coulter Ireland Inc. Mervue Business Park, Galway
|
The Galway operation is Beckman Coulter’s largest European manufacturer of diagnostic reagents and rotor products for customers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The company produces about 200 products from Galway (140 reagent and 60 rotor), which are then shipped to the plant’s central distribution hub on mainland Europe for redistribution. This diverse range of products reflects the significant emphasis placed on R&D within the company - with an investment in R&D of $208m in 2005.
Beckman Coulter is one of Ireland’s longest established multinational companies, with a history that stretches back 35 years. The operation in Galway was initially established in 1972 to manufacture centrifuge rotor assemblies. In 1979, the product line was increased to include the manufacture of in-vitro diagnostic reagents products. The plant now produces a range of routine chemistry, haematology, immunoassay and electrophoresis reagent products for the company’s diagnostic systems. In addition, the plant produces rotor assemblies for the Ultra, High Performance, High Speed and High Capacity centrifuge ranges.
Beckman Coulter is a world leader in providing systems that simplify and automate laboratory processes. Our Headquarters are in Fullerton, California; Beckman Coulter markets its products in 130 countries worldwide with 2005 reported annual sales of $2.44 billion. The company has recently made a significant investment in the Galway facility to introduce a new suite of diagnostic reagent products for its highly successful range of Immunoassay systems.
From a technical perspective, the new Immunoassay systems will be more sophisticated than what we have produced before in the Galway plant. We are moving towards higher value-added production and more complex product ranges, which we feel is an excellent signal of our intentions for the future, and an excellent indication of the possibilities for any people interested in joining our company.
