Biomek FXP provides the speed and performance critical to today’s research environments. The flexible platform is available in single and dual pipetting head models combining multi-channel (96 or 384) and Span 8 pipetting. Ideal for high throughput workflows, Biomek FXP accelerates laboratory processing, and is easy to update or integrate as your research needs evolve.

Liquid Handling Pods

Multi-Channel Pod
The multi-channel pod can accept the 96-channel, 200 µl dispense head, the 96-channel, 50 µl dispense
head, the 384-channel dispense head, and the high-density replicating tool in 96 or 384 formats. All of
these heads are installable by the user with a minimum amount of down time, and in any combination
between the two bridges. The multi-channel pods are equipped with integrated grippers to provide the
movement of labware on the deck of the Biomek NXP/FXP Workstation.
 
The 96-channel and 384-channel heads utilize disposable tips for the ultimate in contamination-free transfers. A wash station with independent tip reservoirs is available for the repeated use of the same tips. The ability to track the liquid levels of all labware on the deck of Biomek FXP/NXP reduces the carryover through minimal immersion of the tips in the labware utilized during the method.

Span-8 Pod
The Span-8 pod has independent axis control including variable height, volume, liquid level sensing and liquid level tracking. The Span-8 pod can exist singularly with a single bridge system. In a dual bridge system, the configuration can include an additional multi-channel pod or 8-channel pod. The Span-8 pods can accommodate both disposable tips and fixed probes in full eight or four-by-four configurations.  A Span-8 assists workflows focused around tube-based operations and where flexible access to wells in a plate is needed.

Automated Labware Positioners (ALPs) & Components

Biomek Thermal Exchange Unit Range: -20°C to 100°C
Bar Code Reader with Fixture Reads various types of bar codes including Code 39, Codabar, Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC/EAN, Code 128.
Biomek Circulating Reservoir Includes four-well Teflon reservoir and accessories for circulation of two liquids, continuous supply of buffer solvent, or reagent.
Circulating Reservoir Tip Box ALP An active ALP that conserves space on the Biomek deck by allowing a tip box or labware to be stored above the circulating reservoir.
Fly-By Barcode Reader With the ability to scan plates being held by the gripper, sample integrity is ensured. Sample IDs can be imported based on the plate barcode and tracked throughout the run. If barcode inconsistencies are detected, Biomek Software allows a wide range of user-controlled corrective actions, logging and error handling instructions.
Bar Code Reader ALP Scans bar code labels applied to the narrow sides of labware.
ATBCR Presents and reads barcdoes of samples stored in sample containers to the deck so the Span-8 Pod can access the contents of the containers. Capped and sealed sample tubes to be tilted from 0° (tubes pointing straight up) to 150° (tubes pointing 60° below horizontal) to mix the contents of the sample containers.
96-or-384 Tip Wash ALP Tip Wash ALP provides a constant flow of liquid into 96 individual channels to wash the interior and exterior of the pipetting tip. The tip wash ALP reduces running costs by curtailing or reducing the use of tips. Multiple tip wash ALPs can be configured for differing liquids or for specific pipettors.
Span-8 Wash ALP The 8-Channel Active Wash ALP is an active ALP that washes fixed or disposable tips on the probes of a Span-8 Pod.
Labware Stacking ALP Two rotated positions that are used to stack tip boxes and labware.
4x4 ALP Increase deck flexibility when a method requires access to large amounts of labware, but still requires access to other ALPs, such as the Tip Wash ALPs or the Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) Vacuum Manifold ALP.
Drainable Refillable Reservoir ALP Featuring a reservoir that can be drained and refilled automatically.
Positive Positioning ALP Verifies the presence or absence of a microplate on the ALP and accurately and precisely positions it for interaction with the Biomek instrument.
Disposal ALPs Dispose of tips, tip boxes, and labware during a method.
Heating/Cooling ALP Active ALP that heats or cools a reservoir, microplate, or other standard labware.
SPE ALP Kit Filter fluid from samples by pulling the fluid from a sample through a filtered microplate, and disposing of the filtered fluid. Designed for use with the vacuum filtration systems.
Shaking ALP Designed to mix solutions in microplates using a linear shaking motion.
Stirring ALP Stirs liquids in a reservoir at an adjustable speed.
Tube Rack ALP Kits Hold test tube racks or septum piercing tube racks on the Biomek deck during liquid-handling procedures.
Magnetic Bead ALPs Positions magnetic beads in microplates for pipetting operations.
HDR Pin Drying and Reservoirs ALP Part of a system for washing and drying pins on the HDR Tool Body between transfers in a method.
